Still waiting for Sunset fiber to get up here in Saint Charles VA. .

Some news on the Fiber in LEE County.

I just posted what I think is  some good news but also bad on our sister blog :Ftth for us all. Here is what I whote On that blog post : "I just got off the phone with someone at Sunset Digital and was told as follows" If you live around existing fiber cable you can get connected but the lead time is 12 months.". So that is some good news their But NO new line expansion will happen for some time now. I was hoping to get this super fast fiber net but it looks like I will not be able to get it. Sorry for the bad news but at least it is something. Untill nrext time or if I find out anything else  BFN..." When I hear more I'll post here.. Thanks to all my readers . BFN...

We have been waiting on some of our contacts to get back with us on things going on with the fiber please rest assured that we are still here. WE ARE NOT DEAD....

Update on fiber in LEE county..

Well everyone Good news for us in Lee county. I called Scott County Telephone Cooperative yesterday Feb 15, 2013 and was told that they were doing preliminary work on the fiber here in Jonesville and they will be completing all areas that Leno LLC did not want to Finnish out over this year and next. I do hope that they can do it a bit sooner here in Saint Charles I would really like to have their service. As for Sunset Digital Communications I really don't know if they will be involved in the finishing out or not.




I do hope the Sunset will be involved but I do see why they would not also. In my opinion SUNSET got crapped on big time LENO LLC should have let Sunset at least bid on their share of the network. I do wish SUNSET all the best and I do hope that they can be the ones that I deal with if/when Saint Charles area gets finished out..

LENO LLC no more!!! LOL

Well everyone I now have an update for you all. LENO LLC is no more. The new owner of this fiber is http://www.sctc.org/ .


Now is as good time as any to call them up and see if they are going to expand this network.

The FTTH for the rest of us...

The fiber network is going full steam ahead over in TN. So now why has it stopped almost completely here in LEE, VA.? Please leave a comment.. Let everyone know what you think?

Over the past few years this page has been helped so much by another blog and here is a link to that other blog http://www.stimulatingbroadband.com/ the person behind that blog is Peter Pratt he was the main person that helped me realize that people need to stand up and be herd and be seen. I am going to keep posting to this blog as long as I can but I'm looking for more blog post contributory that can post when I am unable to. Well wonder who will own lenowisco LLC.

as I last posted "I think it was on the FaceBook page" The PowellValley News paper front page. It was said that AUG, 6 would be when they would close their deal. So now I wonder who will own Lenowisco LLC.? I would hope that Sunset Digital would be the ones getting it sense they are the ones doing all upkeep and maintenance to it.

long time no see...sorry everyone

Hello again everyone I have a lot to type about today. First off I want to bring everyone up to speed on myself and the fiber. Ok my last post was in Febuary 2012 first I was very sick and could not even get out of bed for 2-4 days straight then when I was able to get up I found myself almost out of wood heat with so I had to work on getting that taken care of by cutting wood and splitting it that took the rest of Febuary on through March and April. Then my dial -up service started knocking me off the net as soon as I got on " well I can't post here like that." so I had to fix that problem. And yes even more problems with my land line phone "Verizon" sometimes it would work and then it would not "and I still have this problem now". All of that was in May - July "Yes my phone service is still out.". So in mat I got  EXEDE Satellite internet & I am quite pleased with it. It has a speed of up to 12Mbs and I have almost reached it several times. Phone service such as VOIP works really good " not as good as when we had FIBER internet" but I at least had a way to call if I needed help or got sick. I got the service back in May but I really did not get into using it till the last few months "June-July". I had been just letting my computers update and check email but I have to say it lets all of my 7 laptops and my 4 desktops update really fast.


Now on with the fiber...

The week end of the 6th-8th of july their was a really good artical in the Powell valley news Week ender edition and it said LENWISCO LLC. was selling the fiber network but would not say who.. I do hope it is SUNSET DIGITAL they have worked their tail ends off trying to get the rest of LEE, WISE and SCOTT counties finished out. I'll edit this post with more as I get it in.

Sunset not selling out..

 Well the heading basically says it all folks..

 The January 23rd court date between Lenowisco LLC vs. Sunset digital did not go as leno wanted. Well Leno wanted the entire Fiber network sold off as a whole to Powell Valley Electric Coop or "PVEC" for short. Now I do not have every detail of this but what I have learned is that Sunset can not sell their part under some other agreements from other parties involved. I hope that they can expand this network and get the rest of lee county done. In a phone conversation with Ryan Elswick he has told me that "we are going to keep our heads down and as soon as other funding comes our way we will do as much as we can with it" now that sounds very positive that they will do everything they can do to get more people on this network.. From another source telling me that LENOWISCO LLC is broke and on the verge of bankruptcy well I guess instead of giving them selves rises, using the money for other projects other than the fiber & using it to take SUNSET to court. I guess they should have used the money more wisely. The computer centers are not getting funds that leno was supposed to pay out for the upkeep and electric bills for them "that is why some of the computer centers have already closed" . All this money I speak of was grant money paid to leno for this.

Now Virginia Tobacco Indemnification & Community Revitalization Commission or 'TIC' for short is going to allow Leno LLC to sale off their part of this wonderful network and has blocked SUNSET from buying LENO's part. Now why would they do that? Well if SUNSET owned it all then they would have to work with sunset for use of the fiber and all the LENO board members would have to start paying for their Internet use instead of having free use of this network.. We the people should have a say as to what happens to this network it was installed and paid for by tax payer dollars "your tax dollars & mine" that is why at the very beginning the level 1 service price was set at $49.95 that is not a bad price to pay for that kind of service.

What would it mean to that purposed 4G cell service if SUNSET owned all of this network? Well for starters Verizon would have to work with SUNSET for Access and not LENO. They would have to come up with some major money to use the fiber for their own back haul of cell signals. They would also not OWN "Verizon" this part of their so called national network.

Lee Board of Supervisors meeting..

As the heading states everyone the next "BoS" meeting will be on Jan 17th at 5pm in the General District Courtroom at the courthouse in Jonesville, VA.
Also Ms. Tina Rowe stated on here FB page:Lee County, VA District 5 Community  that and I quote her in typing "- I have the Fiber issue on the agenda" so anyone that wants this fiber in St.Charles please try and go to this meeting I think this meeting will have an impact on all of here. District 5 consists of St. Charles, Keokee, Robbins Chapel, Stone Creek, and East Pennington Gap (Voters at PMS). Let's show her that we do care about this fiber network and as many that can please show up.

The purposed 4G project

I have the list of tower sites in Lee County in the Coalfield Coalition wireless project, and here are the communities where they’ll add 4G equipment to an existing tower:

Jasper, Dryden, Pennington, Dot, Jonesville, Ben Hur and South Ewing

 A new tower is proposed for Rose Hill
